V-Belts

A V-belt is a flexible machine element used to transmit power between a set of grooved pulleys or sheaves. They are characterized as belts having a trapezium cross-section. They are used because of their ability to wedge tightly into the grooves of the pulley. This creates higher friction between the surfaces which reduces slip and power loss. V-belts can be classified as wrapped or raw edge belts. Wrapped v-belts are fully covered with a fiber cover, while raw edge belts have bare flanks.
